The thread gauge in question.
As I have been stripping down a lot of old equipment (skip finds) I have been producing a fair few nuts and bolts which it would be a shame to throw away. This bar is tapped with the common (metric course) sizes M1.6-M12 this lets me-quickly sort bots with out needing to get the callipers out and check the diameter and pitch, or rummage around to find the correct nut
As its made of aluminium I imagine it may well not wear so well (it was a quick job hence the non aligned holes and pen numbering). Ideally a future version would have a steel bar (or maybe several bars for size reasons) tapped with all the standardised threads (metric fine and course, UNF, UNC, Withworth, BSP, NPT, BA...) ordered by size with the thread name stamped in for robustness. Trouble is taps are expensive and I currently only have a cheapo metric set, not doing much that needs the other sizes it's doubtful it worth the investment. It may be a better idea to try and collect a selection of nuts and set them in to a bar with resin?, a future project requiring further thought.
